Stephanie and I were co-workers a lifetime ago. I was going through a really difficult time in my life and working at a job that wasn't right for me, and Stephanie was there every day smiling, keeping me company, and oh yea - teaching me how to do my job! She is one of the kindest and most genuine people in my life and I miss seeing her every day. Bobby and Steph are already amazing parents. Their first child, Andrew Brian, was born on February 7th and weighed 6lbs 11 oz. He is the sweetest little guy ever! Congrats you two! I am so honored to have captured these moments for you.
Etta is so sweet. I have been so honored to photograph her birth and her new family portraits. This newborn session was amazing. She was wide awake for a good bit of it and then started dozing. Every camera click would cause her to open her eyes and watch me. Finally she got so tired from keeping her eye on me that she just conked. I loved spending the afternoon with Etta and her beautiful Mama! I mean, who doesn't want to spend an afternoon snuggling a sweet baby?!
I was asked by Lani and Jim to photograph the birth of their baby and it was an experience that I can barely put into words. I arrived at the hospital at 11pm and Lani was well into her labor. I had a feeling things would be happening soon, but didn't want to hover in her room so I walked down to the family waiting room where I watched the end of Leno and the beginning of Jimmy Fallon. As Fallon brought on his first guest I got a call from Jim. Lani was going to start pushing.
Having never been in a delivery room before, I just wanted to capture the experience for Lani while staying out of everybody's way. I figured it would be like it is in the movies, people running around yelling STAT!, Lani screaming bloody murder, and Jim freaking out. I couldn't have been more wrong. Birth isn't like that. Or at least Lani's wasn't. The room was quiet and so peaceful. Lani was so unbelievably calm and strong. She pushed for about fifteen or twenty minutes before baby Etta came into the world. I'll never forget Lani's reaction as they put Etta on her chest.
I could not be more grateful for the chance to preserve these precious moments below. Lani was amazing. The love between Lani and Jim and the love they have for Etta was so abundant, it was impossible not to capture.
Congratulations to Lani, Jim, and big brother, Ian!
Oh my gosh. I can't even wait to share this incredibly moving and beautiful experience with you. Congrats to Lani, Jim, and big brother, Ian!
I'm am so happy that my sister-in-law asked me to do Addy's newborn photos. Not only because I freakin' love taking photos but also because it gave us an excuse to go to Chicago and spend close to two weeks with family. I visited them in the hospital and did a mini session there, but Laura also wanted some more formal shots taken. Peter, Laura, Alexis and Addison are such a beautiful family and so much fun to photograph. Alexis was my assistant and used her toddler camera to take photos of her Mom and Dad while I was clicking away. It looks like we've got another shutterbug in the family! We even got Grandma (or "Gram" as Alexis likes to call her) in on the fun. The result? A truly beautiful family/newborn session that just warms my heart.
